Public workers should not be forced to contribute to causes, candidates, and controversial issues that they don't believe in. The workers, not their unions, should also be able to decide how much and when they make political contributions. Prop 75 gives rank and file government employee union members THE RIGHT to give their permission before union bosses can take money from teachers, firefighters, police and other union employees and spend it on political campaigns. Give union members the right to decide where their hard-earned money goes. Why is Prop 75 so important? Because union bosses have used this power of confiscation to corrupt the political process. They extract huge amounts of money out of members paychecks and spend it on politicians who determine their pay and benefits. This enormous power to control the Legislature is actually at the root of many of the problems that exist in our state today. For example: Because of the power of these huge contributions, government unions pay and benefits are bankrupting governments and school districts all over this state. The city of San Diego will probably declare bankruptcy because of a bloated pension system. The Los Angeles Unified School District owes $3 billion or one years entire budget in unfunded retiree health benefits. Dozens of school districts around the state are on the verge of bankruptcy because of excessively generous pension plans. |
